The weather has been beautiful during September which is a delightful birthday present for me. ๐ We had a family birthday celebration before we headed off on Kindred Spirit.
I do not need more “things” so I made a birthday request of my sons – please dig out the overgrown bushes and replant different smaller ones for me. I am delighted with my gift!
The grandkids wore their Boat Camp Watch Hill sweatshirts. We all enjoyed pizza, salad, and an ice cream birthday cake.
We left on September 11th for Block Island for a few days. Having spent the last four birthdays there, I believe it is the BEST time of year to be there. George and Patrice, on Our Nest, also decided on a trip to Block.
Our Nest left after we did and beat us there. Kindred Spirit is a slower ride.
We had dinner together on Kindred Spirit. (George’s photo of the moon.) It was incredibly peaceful. That’s what you will find on a Thursday evening in mid-September. ๐
It is fun to look back at all of my birthdays since September falls within the boating season. I look at the photos and think about how growing older isn’t easy, but I am incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by loving family and friends. And so far, we are still out on the water enjoying our boat, too.
2013-2024
Sometimes we are on land for my birthday.
And sometimes, more often than not, we are out on the water.
Opening my birthday gift from Al this year – a fabulous weaving kit with yarn and instructions for a new technique that I have never tried.
My wish for the day was to walk on the beach and what a great day it was for that.
We had the beach to ourselves.
What a glorious day for a birthday.
I can’t resist watching and listening to the surf. Or taking photos trying to capture something really great.
The best one!
Advertising on the sidewalk as you leave the dinghy dock. Cute. Dead Eye Dicks was decked out for Block Island’s LGBTQ celebration that weekend.
The dinners are always delicious and the view of the water is pretty darn delightful, too.
That old Boston Whaler is still in service. Living up to the “unsinkable” fame.
The sun set on a lovely day.
The Farmers Market at Legionnaire Park on Saturday mornings.
Another beautiful day on the beach. George and Patrice joined us. More waves….
Liza Karsai’s painting of a wave hangs in our gallery. I found this in Florida in 2020 so I guess it is no surprise that I am drawn to waves. That said, I do not like to swim in big ones.
Happy hour on Our Nest with Patrice and George. Another very fine day in September.
Sunday was another gorgeous day, what a streak of weather we were having. We decided it was a good day for kayaking.
I regret that I did not take my phone with me. We kayaked from our anchor location (the star) all around the eastern shore of Salt Pond and then stumbled upon a little entrance in the grasses lining the shore. We had a lot of fun exploring the shallow paths through the grasses. We were hoping we could kayak all the way through to the outer shore, but that wasn’t possible.
This is a photo of that location that I took as we left Block Island. We have to go back and do this again next year.
A “must-do” on Block is to have Narragansett beers at The Oar.
A view of our Kindred Spirit from the lawn chairs at The Oar. The weekend boats had cleared out by Sunday afternoon. ๐
As we sat in the cockpit enjoying the serenity, Al noticed some darker clouds. Checking the radar, we saw that rain might be coming to us on Block. As we watched and waited, the storm split and went on either side of Block. Lucky!
It was time to head back on Monday afternoon.
Another great birthday. I wonder how long I can keep this going? All of September???? ๐
happy belated birthday…looks like you had a wonderful celebration…loved all the pics and the evolution of your family. i will admit the weather has been spectacular even on land! continue to enjoy before you put the kindred spirit to bed for the winter!
It’s funny, I wished the wrong friend happy birthday on your birthday. Guess I should look at my calendar more and not trust my memory. Looks like you had great birthday celebrations and a fun last hurrah. Best wishes for many more birthday celebrations to come.
